I chose the topic of breast feeding because it is important for parents to know their options for feeding their baby. A mother's milk provides good nutrition and is sterile at body body temperatue and contains iron, vitamins and nutrients for brain and body growth. Babies who are breast-fed become sick less, due to breast milk providing them with antibodies against disease. Breast-feeding also decreases the risk of obesity, asthma and heart disease in childhood and adulthood. Some parents might worry if they have a premature baby, but breast milk for pre mature babies is distinct from breast milk for older infants. Research shows that "breast is best" becsuse it creates immediate mother-infant bonding and has a long term affect on cognition. Breast feeding has many benefits and most of all it is free.It was interseting to discover that in some African nations, HIV-positive woen are encouraged to breast-feed because their is a less risk of the child catching the virus from breast milk, but their chance of dying from infections, diarrhea, or malnutrition as a result of occastional bottle-feeding (Cohen, 2007). In Gahna breast-feeding is known to be the most purest way to nurse a baby. In Africa many children are breast-fed to age 3 and 4 years. In Egypt women are not allowed to breast-feed in public, it is against their religion. Throughout the world we all have different practicesnwhich relate to breast-feeding, but breast-feeding is known to be best practice to many. If I decide to have another child in the future I will make the choice to breast feed which will benefit the mother-child relationship that I hope to have.

I also did my blog on breastfeeding. It is a wonderful thing although I didn't like it at first. I love the fact that you decided to post on this as well. I didn't that mothers were willing to breastfeed over the age of two. Here women are told that six months are long enough. Excellent job Sharee.

Shevia,
I knew that there were many benefits to breastfeeding. However, when I birthed my daughter, breastfeeding did not cross my mind. Why not? Because I was not as educated about the subject as I am now. I now know and understand the importance of breastfeeding. No, my daughter did not have a lot of early childhood illnesses but it is a joy in knowing that I could have done more to help her have a better immunity.
