Birthing Experiences

Viewing my sister delivering her baby boy was amazing.  I had given birth a year before, but there is a major difference in delivering a child and actually watching the event taking place.  It was amazing to view the delivery and to realize how important prenatal care is and being stress free during your pregnancy.  Her delivery was in a hospital and she received an epidural to relieve some of the pain. If I would have arrived minutes later I would have missed the delivery because the delivery was relatively quick, but being apart of that moment meant everything to me.

I researched China and discovered that majority of children were born at home.  In United States children are typically born in the hospital.  Researchers from Bejing and London found that babies born in hospital were two to three times more likely to die compared to those born at home.  Since 2000 China has been promoting hospital deliveries and almost all babies are born in the hospital except for the poor.  China and the United States share a similarity of infants being born in hospitals.

I have not had the privilege to be a part of someone else's birthing experience. I guess I'm looking forward to being there when my daughters have their own children. Thanks for the information about China too. It's very interesting to learn about how this experience is different in other parts of the world
