Research that benefits children and families

If I had the means and the knowledge to conduct research studies about any topic in the early childhood field I would put my focus on determining ways to reduce poverty. Poverty is such a huge topic and issue that affects many communities worldwide. I would focus on ways that the issues that families are faced with such as lack of education, past records such as felony that might have occurred when a person was younger and the lack of employment that many families are faced with. Not many people are concerned about being rich, but is focused on providing their families with the basic necessities. I believe that my research would involve surveys and observing younger children to determine how living in poverty is currently affecting them and how it might affect them negatively in the food. I would also contribute to this effort by writing proposals for grants and becoming a community activists while researching. Being aware of what the needs are in the community will allow me to be able to positively contribute to this issue. I believe that the positive contributions would be supplying the communities with food vouchers so that no child, or family goes hungry, providing families with links to computer training and employment resources. Many people are not able to obtain employment because of mistakes that they have made in the past which most often cause them to have a criminal background. I hope to also provide financial resources and referrals for expongement opportunities for families as well. Research suggests that investments in prenatal and infant health and high-quality early childhood programs will improve children's life and benefit society as well (Duncan, G.J., Ludwig, J., Magnuson, K.A., 2007). Research also suggests that intensive early childhood programs can produce lasting improvements in the life of poor children (Duncan, GlJ., Ludwig, J., Magnuson, K.A., 2007). Because of the positive impacts that might occur with reducing poverty I believe that I have selected a great research topic.

Poverty is a great topic and definitely one that we should be focusing on in this country. I do believe that with enough research by passionate advocates there are plenty of changes that can be made to improve the negative affects of poverty on families.

Very nice post!

I agree, poverty is such a difficult issue when it comes to anyone, but especially children. More research needs to be conducted on the effects of poverty on all domains of development on young children.

Susan
