The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (unesco) is an organization that is filled with information pertaining to education, natural science, social and human services, culture and communication/information. The UNESCO has information on poverty and human rights. Within this article there is information about defining the concept of poverty and poverty being a violation of human rights. Poverty is not only defined as a lack of resources to live, but is also linked to the notion of vulnerability (unesco.org). This article also states that poverty is a violation of human rights, because the poor remain invisible, and poverty is equivalent to hunger, homelessness, and illiteracy (unesco.org). The poor continue to be deprived of the enjoyment of human rights, or have no rights at all (unesco.org). This website made me more aware of the issues surrounding poverty and information that is available to people all over the world. I also found interesting information pertaining to culture which is also an important aspect of working with families.

I think we have to be careful to think our ways are the best for everyone. That is not always the case. Being born into a poor family does not necessarily mean human rights are being violated. To provide help and opportunity for children and their families is a good thing, but without it does not mean their life is less filled with the things money cannot buy.
Hi Janice,
I understand your perspective and this is also the first time that I have heard that poverty is a violation of human rights. Although, I understand your point of view I can also understand certain points that the article is making. My experience with working in neighborhoods that are concerned at-risk has made me believe that the poor can sometimes be invisible. I am also not sure if there are enough resources available to assist everyone in need. Thanks for your feed back.
Shevia,
The UNESCO’s “Early Childhood Care and Education” website is very rich and full of information. I agree with you that there are several issues surrounding poverty and that people do not have enough information concerning the subject and how to go out of it. Nice post!
Hi Shevia,
I agree that this website and organization has so much pertinent information for all us to learn from. It is amazing how poverty takes on so many faces and places.
Nice post. i think this research class has done woners for all of us as a whole. This class has been very informative for me and although I struggled a bit I have need insight on how research in the early childhood field can help with some of the major issues concerning children and research. Thanks for you valuable input.
