The organization that I have been following is zero to three. On this website there is much information pertaining to children and families. The information that was most relevant to me was The Article Reauthorization of The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program (TANF). I am aware of the TANF program because I work with families that receive this assistance or is applying for it. Congress passed a welfare reform legislation in 1996 which gives cash assistance to needy families. This information is relevant to my professional development because it is important for me to be aware of the resources available for families when they are in need. This article made me realize how families continue to struggle to live each day. Although government assistance is available for families in almost every state it is not enough for families to provide for their children. This article states that cash benefits vary widely by each state and are inadequate by each state (zero to three). The issues in this article made me more aware of the challenges that many communities are facing. In this article the research of scientist and economist states that recent revelations of scientific research point to one conclusion that investments in early childhood are the best for reducing poverty (zero to three). This new evidence is a research based two-pronged approach to breaking the cycle that fosters the healthy development of children and ensuring that parents have access to stable and skilled employment and training opportunities (zero to three). I gained more insights about what resources are needed within communities. I also learned about the policies pertaining to TANF and recommendations to change the TANF policies.

Shevia,
There is no amount of assistance that could be enough for a family, especially when there is no source of income within the family. This is why early childhood program is highly important so that a well informed child today would be a responsible adult tomorrow.
Hi Shevia:
I am aware of the TANF program as well and there are quite a few families who are using this resource. I live in Michigan and we all know what is going on here. But I must say that we are doing the best we can. The TANF program is something that EC professionals should be aware of especially when working with low-income families. This resource can possibly help them in a major way. Great post!
Hi Shevia:
Very informative post! I am aware of the TANF program as well. EC professionals should be aware of this resource, especially when working with low income families. This resource could help them in a major way, even if it is temporary. At times, some help is better than no help...
Hi Shevia,
I know about the TANF program as well because at one point, I was on this program. I was a single parent with a young baby and no help from his father. It helped me out at a time when I needed it the most. This website that you have been researching is a wonderful resource to all of us!

Grat Blog Post- I agree with all that you share. The TANF program is vital to had win place. The efforts to make Early Child Education Program high priority is always key !!!
Hi Shevia,
I was unaware of TANF prior to reading your blog post. Of course I knew there were different assistance programs, but unfortunately I am not aware of too many of these programs because the area I live in doesn’t have much of a need for assistance. However, there are a few families that could benefit from this information and it is something I should be knowledgeable since I do work in the education field. After reading your post I read more on TANF and the assistance program in California. I really liked that it requires exempt single parents caring for a child under the age of 1 from TANF work requirements and time limits, and provide states with incentives to promote better parenting skills, its just too bad that congress doesn’t require all states to take advantage of this.
Hi Shevia,
I can believe that the families do not recieve enough to move up above the poverty line. It is an unfortunate cycle for generations. The good point is the children in these families qualify for quality childcare in facilities also funded by the government. One point for the children and EC advocates.
