Global Children's Initiative

Because I have not made contact with any international contacts I had to complete the alternative assignment. The information that I found while viewing the Global Children’s Initiative on http://developingchild.harvard.ed has made me more aware of the portfolio that was developed by faculty and students at Harvard University. Early childhood development, mental health and children in crisis is the focus of creating this portfolio. This portfolio will be used to educate international agencies, publish and disseminate papers to establish a framework for global work and to conduct research (Global Children's Initiative). There is also a video on this website that shows how the brain is structured through processes that begin early in life and continues throughout adulthood. Genes provide the basis blueprint and experiences that occur determine how genes are expressed. There is also an article that discusses intervention and investing in young children. Researchers, education specialists, and economists has proved that it is possible to improve a wide range of outcomes for vulnerable children well into the adult years and generate benefits to society which are more than the actual cost of the programs.  While researching this website I can say that I have found another valuable resource to stay abreast of current knowledge in the field.

Shevia,
This is a great post! With the researchers, education specialists, and economists concluding on improvements on a wide range of outcomes of vulnerable children and well into their adult years, I believe more are yet to come as research is still ongoing. The result of this and many more would definitely benefit the society greatly.

I too thought the "Global Children's Initiative" is a great website. One insight for me is the fact they are trying to get some of thier initiatives going. This is a great opportunity to be follow a program and see exact challenges and successes entailed in getting a global project going and productive.

It is also a great opportunity to follow and observe since they are just starting some of the projects. The challenges they face and successes of early childhood initiatives on a global scale can be very helpful in future indeavors.
