Ideals and Ethical Conduct

NAEYC Ideals
1-4.1-To provide the community with high quality early childhood care and education programs and services.
I-3C.1-To promote safe and healthy working conditions and policies that foster mutual respect, cooperation, collaboration, competence, well-being, confidentiality, and self-esteem in staff members.
I-1.8- To support the right of each child to play and learn in an inclusive environment that meets the needs of children with and without disabilities.
I chose these specific Ideals because I believe that it is important to provide high quality educational programs and services to families that allow a person to remain professional while delivering services.  In order to provide exceptional services a person must be well competent and foster growth and learning in staff members and families.
DEC Code of Ethics
6. We shall empower families with information and resources so that they are informed consumers of services for children.
7. We shall be responsible for protecting the confidentiality of the families and children we serve by protecting all forms of verbal, written, and electronic communication.
I chose these codes because it is important for early childhood professionals to empower families so that they may reach their full potentials in life.  Confidentiality is also very critical when dealing with families.  All documents should be kept in a safe place to avoid trust issues within an educational facility.

The ideals you choose are all really great! We do need to promote play and what children are learning when they do play. I also like the ideal about the work conditions of employees. Employees are going to be more productive and positive when we provide good working conditions and help with team building and give positive feedback. We also need to provide training where we see a need. You also point out the importance of confidentiality and I agree that is very important. Families need to know that what we see or hear won’t be repeated to others unless they need to know. Great post!

Hi Shevia,

I love your post. It is important that we empower our families with resources and services for our children. There are many children who do not have the proper clothing to wear to school, and this can make it very hard on our children, for example, during the winter time, some children do not have coats or jackets and therefore; they become very sick and begin to spread their illness to other people, it is important for us to provide resources so that parents can go to get their children the proper clothing and materials that is necessary for the children to be healthy and to learn to their fullest potentials.

Shevia,

I like how you chose ideals that effect the childrens families! If we as teachers can make a positive connection with with parents and caregivers you job becomes easier. A educated workforce and all makes for a more productive teaching envirment. When eveyone is happy children learn in a productive and less restrictive enviroment.
