Communicating Effectively
I find myself communicating differently with people from different groups and cultures at times. My experience has been rewarding because I have been able to become more educated about their family history, dishes that have been passed, and perspectives on religion. I communicate differently because this conversation always lead to open ended questions and is very informative. I am also able to share information about my culture and we are able to listen without being biased. I have learned many things while communicating with colleagues and families. The strategies that I can use while communicating with families is avoiding being judgmental, listening actively when communicating and always be open to understand and appreciate cultural differences.

Hi Shevia,
I enjoyed reading your post and feeling how positive you are about learning about other cultures, other than your own. Your willingness to learn and to seek information demonstrates your openness and mindfulness of the perspective of others. This strategy will support you in developing highly effective communication skills.
I agree, it is extremely important to avoid being judgmental in conversations with others. One must never assume that we know how a person feels or judge a person due to his or her appearance.
Hi Shevia,
In all our communications we want to strive to send consistent verbal and nonverbal messages. When our messages are inconsistent, the listener may become confused. Consistency creates trust and build a relationship with the other person.
